Frequently Asked Questions

Question:
Can my child still purchase meals using cash?

Answer:          Yes.  Students may continue to purchase breakfast/lunch using cash or change.

Question:        Instead of using the online account management option, can I send money to school to add to my child's account?
Answer:
Yes.  When reporting to the cafeteria for lunch/breakfast, staff will receive your child's deposit.  The money will be deposited into their private school meal account.  Deposits must be placed in an envelope accompanied by the student's name and ID number.  (Please do not write this number on the outside of the envelope.)  Keep your ID number confidential!

Example:

A $20.00 check:      Billy Doe - Grade 4 #1111      $10.00

                                 Judy Doe - Grade 5 #2222      $10.00

Check prepayments are accepted and encouraged; simply place your child(s) ID number(s) on the check.

This money will be deposited into their meal account.  At Breakfast/Lunch they will simply pick up their meal, punch in their ID number on the keypad, or scan their Student ID card and the money will be subtracted from their account.

Question:        What is my child's Student ID?
Answer:          Student ID's are printed on the Middle and High School report cards.  Student ID's can also be found online in the School Tool system (Parent Portal) or Elementary School parents may contact the Elementary School Registrar:  585-346-4000 x5004.

Question:        How will I know if my child's account is low?
Answer:
If a student's meal account gets low, our staff will remind them.  Or, parents can use the online account management site, www.myNutriKids.com, to monitor their child's account.

Question:        What if my child forgets his/her lunch money?
Answer:

NutriKids will allow a negative balance for up to 3 meals or $5.55 for Grade K-5 students.

NutriKids will allow a negative balance for up to 1 meal or $2.10 for Grade 6-8 students.

There is no lunch charging for Grade 9-12 students.

No students (PK-12) are allowed to charge breakfast. However, students are provided with an alternate meal in emergencies and will be charged accordingly.

Question:        What if my child's account has money remaining at the end of the school year?
Answer:          Money in the student's meal account at the end of the school year will be carried over to the next school year.

Question:        What if my child has a food allergy?
Answer:          Student food alerts will be entered into NutriKids from our School Tool student management system.  If your child has a special "food" medical concern, this information will be placed in the system to alert our staff to help monitor their meals.  Please be sure that your child's school nurse is made aware of any food or medical alerts.
