Marijuana- Six Good Reasons Not to Smoke It
Aspergillis
Aspergillis is a mold that exists worldwide. It grows in decaying vegetation like marijuana. Moisture in the marijuana encourages bacterial growth, which in turn facilitates the growth of molds. This mold needs at least 15% moisture content to grow. Dried marijuana is generally, and conveniently, at 15% moisture content. Aspergillosis symptoms include a chronic, wet cough that is resistant to treatment and hard to get rid of. You'd think that the aspergillus fungus would die upon burning, but it doesn't. Being burnt just seems to energize the spores so that when they land in the lungs they're ready to grow.
Legal problems
Marijuana possession and sale is still illegal in New York State.
Property Forfeiture
In New York this means that any property that law enforcement officials think might be involved in illegal activity can be confiscated. "Property" includes houses, boats, and cars, as well as telephones, office equipment and just about anything else. In 1996 the Supreme Court ruled that the government can seize property used to commit a crime, even if the owner was innocent of any wrongdoing. A person need not be charged with a crime to lose property.
Amotivational Syndrome
People do lose interest in things when they are stoned all the time. That's why they call chronic pot smokers "burned out." Smoking pot might not affect friendships or athletic performance, but it almost always affects grades.
State Dependent Learning
This is the research that says that if you study stoned you'll do better on a test if you're stoned. This also means that everything you learn while high you will be able to recall best while high. That includes all the relationship skills you are developing right now, subtle interaction skills, reading people's feelings, and connecting with others emotionally. People who are back from rehab are socially awkward because they're re-learning all these social skills while straight.
Schizophrenia
It doesn't happen often, but if you are predisposed to schizophrenia -- if a sibling, parent, aunt or uncle has been diagnosed as schizophrenic -- using hallucinogens could cause the user to become schizophrenic. Marijuana is a hallucinogen.
