Academic Eligibility

All students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. Many of the activities available to students are listed at the end of the handbook section of the planner.

To remain eligible to participate in extracurricular activities and benefit from student privileges, for each five-week reporting period, students must meet both of the following requirements:

1) An overall average of 70

2) May not be failing two courses

Academic Eligibility Procedures

1) Grades will be checked every 5 weeks based on report cards and 5 week notices.

2) Students who do not meet the Board established criteria (failing 2 or more classes or average below 70) will be placed on Probation. Incompletes count as failures until the work is made up.

3) Probationary Students should attend Homeroom support. Those participating in extracurricular activities (including sports) should also attend after school support in the learning lab. They may still participate fully in all activities.

4) After 10 school days (normally 2 weeks)- The student must bring a signed slip from his/her teachers of the failing classes. If he/she is passing, the student is removed from probation. If he/she is failing, the student becomes Ineligible.

5) Ineligible students may not participate in activities. For sports, they may practice, but they cannot compete in games, meets, etc. They should continue to attend Homeroom and After School Support.

6) NEW After being ineligible for 10 school days, an ineligible student can prove at any time that he/she is meeting the eligibility requirements. He/she is returned to full eligibility status. (Exception – A student must wait a minimum of 10 school days after the start of a new quarter so that there are enough grades to prove eligibility)

7) NEW 4th quarter grades will be used to determine 1st quarter ineligibility or probation. This will include activities that begin in August. For example, an ineligible student failing two classes the 4th quarter of one year will continue to be ineligible the next year. This will first affect fall 2007 activities.

8) There will be an allowance for Hardships. Hardships will be determined by a committee of at least 1 Administrator, 2 Teachers, and 1 counselor. This committee will decide on an appropriate supportive action.
