Hallway Sheltering

  • Used to secure the safety of students and staff from extreme weather conditions (tornado, hurricane, hail, high winds) and nearby hazardous material spills that are airborne. Hallway sheltering and the reason for it will be announced via the P.A. system.

    Staff Responsibilities
    Extreme weather:

    1. Administration continues to monitor emergency weather broadcasts.
    2. Post staff to observe approaching weather.
    3. Students and staff to assemble in hallways away from exterior windows (see building maps).
    4. Avoid gathering in areas with higher roof lines (gyms, libraries, music rooms, pool area).
    5. Close fire doors.
    6. Students should be seated on the floor and remain quiet.
    7. Hallway sheltering will end when announced via P.A. system.

    Hazardous spill:

    1. Students and staff to assemble in hallways away from exterior windows (see building maps).
    2. Close all fire doors, exterior windows and doors to classrooms.
    3. Notify maintenance to turn off the ventilation system to all buildings.
    4. Administration continues contact with county HAZMAT team to determine action required.
    5. Notify transportation to safely assemble drivers if an evacuation is required. (All buildings simultaneously.)
    6. Event ends when area is declared safe by HAZMAT team.
