opening plan cover

Hope everyone is enjoying the last days of summer before we start back for another great year on Sept 7!

This special update is to provide you with details of our finalized opening plan. When former Governor Cuomo's Administration decided on Aug 5 to not provide schools with opening guidance, we began working with Livingston County Department of Health, regional partners, and other medical experts to determine the best approach to safely move forward. On August 12, New York State Education Department issued guidance to schools which we examined closely to determine where local decision-making remained and where state mandates existed. Late Friday, August 27, we received a mandate from New York State Department of Health that requires all students, staff, and visitors to wear masks while indoors of a public school. With that decision, we've reworked our plan and can now share where we will start heading into Sept 7.

Throughout the process, we worked to listen, honor, and respect the diverse opinions, perspectives, and experiences regarding this public health conversation. Our success as a public school is always found in being tolerant, accepting, inclusive, and respectful of the diversity that comes with our nearly 1500 students and their families. We will continue to put people first in our decision-making and stay focused on what matters most - supporting and challenging our students to be their best selves and do their best work!

Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and understanding as we keep safely moving forward.

Matt Cole,
Superintendent
