Principal’s Message

Dr. Calzi principalAs we reach the halfway point of the school year, it’s a great time to pause and reflect on all that we’ve accomplished together and to look ahead to what’s coming next. T he first semester seemed to fly by, and the second will go just as quickly. As we move forward, it’s important that we keep the momentum going through the end of the year, as some of the most meaningful learning and growth often happens during these final months.

Our students continue to impress us in so many ways. This winter, we were thrilled to enjoy a fantastic performance of Beetlejuice Jr., which highlighted the talent, creativity, and hard work of our students and staff. Our athletic teams have also had very successful seasons so far, showing not only competitiveness and determination, but strong sportsmanship and school pride. We are also looking forward to our upcoming production of The Drowsy Chaperone and encourage our families and community members to come out and support our performers.

This year’s theme, “Navigating With Purpose,” has been a meaningful focus throughout the school. Through monthly class meetings, students have taken part in thoughtful conversations tied to the New York State Social Emotional Learning Benchmarks. These discussions help students build important skills that support academic success, personal growth, and positive relationships—and they play an important role in shaping our school culture. Our Pop History class students took a tour of the Kodak Film Factory and the George Eastman House.

We are also excited about what lies ahead for next year. Livonia M/HS will be introducing 27 new Syracuse University Project Advance (SUPA) courses, giving students even more opportunities to earn college-level, dual enrollment credit. We are also adding three new elective courses, building on the additions of Financial Literacy, Genocide Studies, and Pop History this year. All tuition costs for SUPA and Genesee Community College dual enrollment courses will be offered free of charge, continuing our commitment to expanding access and opportunity for students.

In the coming weeks, all students in grades 9–12 will meet with their school counselors to talk about future career goals and the course pathways that best fit their plans whether that includes college-level coursework, BOCES CTE programs, or a combination of both. Parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to be part of these conversations and may join meetings or schedule time with their child’s counselor. We truly value this partnership and believe these discussions are essential in helping students make thoughtful, informed decisions about their future.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns. You may contact the main office or reach me directly at 585-346-4000 ext. 1001. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Thank you for being part of the Livonia M/HS community. I am proud of our students, excited about their learning and success, and confident in the positive direction of our school.
